Vivid camellia flower

Native to Japan, the camellia tree does not wither in winter and blooms bright red flowers in early spring.
As a sacred tree that heralds the arrival of spring, it has been an indispensable tree in Shinto rituals since ancient times.
The flower is well known and often appears in the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters), Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan), and Manyoshu (Anthology of Myriad Leaves).

The center of the flower is decorated with a sparkling mother-of-pearl, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of Kyoto-style maki-e.
The inside is lacquered in simple black.

A natsume is a small container used to store matcha powder for Japanese tea ceremonies. 
The name comes from the resemblance of the shape to the jujube berry (called "Natsume" in Japanese).
